I think you have to include Pocahontas in the top 10. One of the first Disney animated films that showed a strong, independent, female protagonist. Definitely an evolution for Disney from the “princess” role in my opinion. I also would’ve included 101 Dalmations in my top 10, because I really love the art and design of the film, it has such a different look and feel from many other Disney films that makes it really unique.
Definitely love Pocahontas, but I think Belle is probably my idea of the first strong, independent, female protagonist. Pocahontas has some of the best songs though!
